How They Work
Directly compare S9 verticals with traditional, heavy telescoping aluminum verticals that cost
$400 and up!
- Stainless Steel Screws, Innovative Slip Mount. Our antenna sections don't just
twist and lock - they twist and lock and are then secured with stainless steel set
screws. "Twist-and-lock" antennas collapse. Our antennas stay up in prolonged,
intense wind. Plus, our gravity slip mount is both stable and the most cost-effective
mounting method for any vertical antenna. No expensive mount to buy!
- S9 Verticals are Lighter. Our antennas are constructed of rugged, telescoping,
tapered fiberglass tubes with an internal, insulated radiating element. The
advantage? 1/5th the weight and no corrosion.
- S9 Verticals are More Reliable. We use a continuous single piece of wire for the
radiating element, so our verticals don't need hose clamps, screws, nuts or bolts to
ensure electrical continuity. The need for messy aluminum joint chemicals like
PenetroxTM or NoaloxTM used to electrically connect the multiple sections of
traditional verticals is also eliminated. An S9 vertical has just one point of potential
electrical failure: the feed point connection to the S9v element wire. Now, try to count
the number of potential electrical failure points on a traditional vertical.
- S9 Verticals are Safer. Our antennas are double-insulated and therefore
considerably safer than traditional aluminum verticals. If someone accidentally
touches your S9 antenna while you are transmitting, they will not be burned from the
RF. Even the tip is double-insulated!
- S9 Verticals Look Better and are Super Stealth. Competing antennas simply
telescope. Our antennas telescope, are tapered and are perfectly straight. The
advantage? Our antennas are thinner, stiffer in the wind, and have less wind load.
The flat matte finish does not reflect light like aluminum so S9 antennas seamlessly
blend into the environment during the day and practically disappear from view during
evening hours. Check out our customer pics! And if you live in a restricted
neighborhood, an S9 vertical is quite possibly the most stealth full-size antenna
solution available at a very attractive price!
- S9 Verticals are the Easiest Full-Size Verticals to Assemble and Deploy. All
you have to do to install an S9 vertical is to extend and secure the fiberglass
sections. The insulated vertical element wire automatically retracts into the antenna
as the sections are expanded.
- S9 Verticals are Pre-Assembled. All the components and hardware you need to
install an S9 vertical are provided. The only tool you'll need to finish assembling the
antenna is a small Phillips screw driver for the stainless steel set screws.
- S9 Verticals are Ready to Go. You can take down an S9 vertical in less than a
minute and quickly collapse it to facilitate portable operation.
All S9 verticals may be directly fed with a high quality 50-ohm coaxial cable such as RG-213,
LMR-400 or RG-8X. For monoband operation, a 1:1 choke balun is recommended at the
feed point. For multiband operation, a 4:1 unun is recommended.
The effectiveness of an S9 vertical (or any vertical antenna) is dependent upon having an
efficient RF ground. The better the RF ground, the better the performance. A ground rod is
not an efficient RF ground and will not improve the performance of any vertical antenna.
Radials are mandatory for good performance. For elevated configurations, S9 antennas
require at least 4 radials cut to 1/4 wavelength at the lowest operating frequency. For
ground mount installations, we recommend a minimum of 16 radials, each at least 1/5
wavelength long at the lowest operating frequency.
